Bio
New York based photographer Karen Haberberg uses photography to capture the intricacies, beauty, and discomfort of both our natural and human worlds. Her diverse practice embodies a human connection with the intangible and balances her sensitivity with technical innovation. Karen’s photography has been featured in gallery exhibitions, magazines, and media outlets worldwide including: The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Daily News, Huffington Post, Time Out NY, Daily Mail, Cosmopolitan, Forbes, ABC News, NY1, and Good Morning America.
In addition to her freelance work, Karen has taught at New York University, 92Y and the International Center of Photography (ICP). For nearly a decade, she served as the Director of Photography and Digital Media at the JCC in Manhattan. Karen has curated numerous exhibitions and collaborated with well-known photographers such as Annie Leibovitz, Elliot Erwitt, Joyce Tenneson, Gillian Laub, and Bruce Davidson.
Haberberg has received numerous awards including: the Julia Margaret Cameron Award, the Pollux Award, the ND Award, the NY Photography Art Award, the International Photography Award, and the Professional Women Photographers Award for Human Relations. Karen has published two documentary photographic journals, An Ordinary Day: Kids with Rare Genetic Conditions and After that Day: Stories of Epilepsy. Karen holds a BA from Brandeis University and an MA in Art and Photography from NYU and ICP, in addition to an MA in Communications and Technology from NYU. Karen lives in New York City with her husband, two children, and dog.
